The National Police rescued on April 30 a young man from Zaragoza in critical condition in the Roca Plana cove, within the protected natural area of Bosc de la Marquesa, in Tarragona. The man had traveled to the coast with the intention of committing suicide and the agents found him semi-conscious after activating an urgent search device.
The intervention was launched after the Missing Persons Group of the Superior Police Headquarters of Aragon notified the Provincial Police Station of Tarragona. The alert arrived when it was confirmed that the young man, with a psychiatric history, had left a farewell note to his family.
The agents followed the mobile phone's geolocation to the Roca Plana cove
The search focused on the surroundings of Bosc de la Marquesa based on the last known location of his mobile phone. That tracking led the agents to the Roca Plana cove, an area of difficult access on the Tarragona coastline.
There they found the young man semi-conscious, along with several boxes of antidepressant medication and two almost empty bottles of alcohol. The location confirmed that he was in a life-threatening situation when the patrol reached him.
The terrain forced them to carry him to a camping area
The terrain prevented the medical vehicles from reaching the point where the young man was. For this reason, the police carried him to a nearby camping area so that he could receive urgent medical attention.
After the rescue, the operation allowed his evacuation to a hospital center in Tarragona. In that transfer, the agents carried him due to the impossibility of sanitary access in the cove and its immediate surroundings.
The young man was subsequently admitted to the Sant Pau-Santa Tecla Hospital in Tarragona, where he remained under medical treatment and evaluation.
