Reus promotes the construction of an exact replica of the chapel of l'Assumpta of the Sagrada Família with an estimated investment of 10 million euros. The initiative comes from the Fundació Gresol and plans to erect a monumental space linked to the Mare de Déu de Misericòrdia in the city.

The project is born with a paradox at its core. While the original chapel is still being built in Barcelona's Sagrada Família, Reus is already working to reproduce it exactly and turn it into a new cultural and tourist focal point of its own.

The Fundació Gresol places the first stone in 2026

The promoting foundation has set 2026 as the planned year to lay the first stone. The proposal also has the support of the temple's Construction Board, administrations, and the Church.

With this institutional backing, Reus aims to incorporate a new large-format element into its symbolic and religious map. The project is structured around the devotion to the Mare de Déu de Misericòrdia, one of the city's most recognizable landmarks.

Reus wants to turn the replica into a cultural and tourist focal point

The initiative does not just propose an architectural reproduction. It also seeks for the future complex to function as a monumental site and as an attraction for visitors, in a city that wants to strengthen its cultural offerings with a piece linked to the universe of the Sagrada Família.

The economic forecast places the action at a total investment of 10 million euros, a figure that gives dimension to the scope of the project and the importance its promoters attribute to it within Reus's future projection.

In parallel, the architectural reference of the proposal is still in progress, as the original chapel of l'Assumpta is still under construction in Barcelona's Sagrada Família.

The first stone of the replica is planned for 2026.
