The Meteorological Service of Catalonia has updated this Tuesday the warning for heavy rains forecast in the coming hours in Tarragona and in a large part of Catalonia, with an episode that will also affect central Catalonia until Wednesday at 8:00 PM.
The tension of the episode lies in the contrast between the territorial extent of the warning and the highest risk level, which is not concentrated on the entire Tarragona coast, but in inland areas where the forecast points to intense storms and accumulations that can exceed 20 liters per square meter in 30 minutes.
Rains can leave more than 20 liters in 30 minutes
The meteorological warning sets the start of the episode this Tuesday at 2:00 PM and maintains the period of greatest vigilance until Wednesday afternoon in central Catalonia. The forecast includes locally heavy rainfall in short periods, a scenario that increases the risk in places where water can accumulate quickly.
In Tarragona, all regions are on yellow alert except for Tarragonès and Baix Penedès. The risk map, therefore, excludes two coastal regions while extending the warning to the rest of the demarcation.
Level 4 out of 6 focuses on inland areas
The Meteorological Service of Catalonia places the maximum danger level at 4 out of 6 in inland areas due to the possibility of intense storms. This threshold is above the generalized yellow alert in much of Tarragona and marks the areas where the evolution of the rain may be more adverse.
Given that forecast, the authorities ask to limit exposure during travel and stay away from underground passages, streams, and other flood-prone areas. They also recommend following the evolution of the episode through official channels during the entire active period of the warning.
The update released this Tuesday keeps the episode active until Wednesday at 8:00 PM in central Catalonia.
