The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested Jonathan Andic for alleged homicide in the investigation into the death of his father, Isak Andic, founder of Mango, who died on December 14, 2024, after falling about 150 meters during an excursion in the municipality of Collbató, in Montserrat.

The case was initially closed as an accidental death on January 16 and returned to that hypothesis in May due to a lack of evidence of criminality. Now, however, the police have shifted their focus and identified the victim's son as a suspect after noting inconsistencies in his statements and analyzing calls made immediately after the fall.

Mossos reopened the case after detecting contradictions in Jonathan Andic's account

Isak Andic was walking alone with his son Jonathan when he fell. Before the excursion, the businessman had asked his security team to give them privacy.

The alert reached the Mossos d'Esquadra at 12:39 PM. The officers located the body in a difficult-to-access area of Montserrat and initially interpreted it as an accidental death.

The investigation was closed on January 16, but was reopened due to inconsistencies in Jonathan Andic's statements. In May, the Mossos again confirmed the accidental hypothesis, finding no evidence of criminality.

Months later, in October, the police changed Jonathan Andic's procedural status from witness to suspect and focused the investigation on the parricide hypothesis. The arrest announced now is based on that turn in the case, along with the detected contradictions and the analysis of calls made after the fall.

Police took statements from the family circle and the investigated person's psychotherapist

During the proceedings, the Mossos d'Esquadra took statements from Judith and Sarah Andic, Jonathan's sisters, about the relationship between father and son. They also summoned the investigated person's psychotherapist, who invoked professional secrecy.

Along the same lines, Estefanía Knuth, Isak Andic's partner in his final years, told the police that the relationship between the businessman and his son was not entirely good.

Faced with this police advance, the High Court of Justice of Catalonia maintained that the investigation was not focused on any specific person. The arrest of Jonathan Andic now introduces a change of scope in a case that for months had oscillated between accident and criminal suspicion.

The family links Jonathan's departure from Mango Man to a planned succession since 2020

The Andic family has defended in a public statement that Jonathan Andic is innocent. In that note, it states that "this process will end as soon as possible and Jonathan's innocence will be proven."

The statement also disconnects Jonathan Andic's departure from the management of Mango Man from his father's death. The family assures that this decision was made before the death of Isak Andic and frames it within the process of separation between ownership and management that the company's founder initiated in 2020.

After that succession, Josep Estol, who until then was the executive director of the men's line, assumed the position of global director of Mango Man.

The excursion on which Isak Andic died followed a usual route to reach the Montserrat abbey, in the southern area of the mountain, a journey of about two and a half hours that is not considered dangerous.
