The popular jury declared the accused guilty of killing a woman with 50 stab wounds on March 22, 2023, in Móra la Nova. The verdict was announced this Friday afternoon in the Tarragona Court and the trial was deemed ready for sentencing.
The main discrepancy between the parties is no longer in the facts, but in their classification. Although the accused confessed, the defense asked for the facts to be considered homicide and requested a sentence of 15 years, as opposed to the prosecution's thesis of murder with treachery and cruelty.
The Prosecution maintains 25 years for murder with treachery and cruelty
After the reading of the verdict, the Prosecution ratified its request for 25 years in prison for the crime of murder with the aggravating circumstances of treachery and cruelty. It also claims compensation of 700,000 euros for the victim's family.
The private prosecution maintained the same requests for conviction and compensation. Thus, both prosecutions maintain the same criminal and economic response for the facts judged in the Tarragona Court.
The defense reduced the request to 15 years and asked for conviction for homicide
For its part, the defense requested a sentence of 15 years in prison. Its request involves reducing the classification from murder to homicide after the accused's confession.
The case was left in the hands of the court after the popular jury issued its guilty verdict this Friday. The death occurred on March 22, 2023, in Móra la Nova, where the victim received 50 stab wounds.
The Prosecution also claims compensation of 700,000 euros for the victim's family.
