The magazine Estat d'ànim is preparing a new phase in Reus in 2026 with more editorial structure, double the content, and quarterly periodicity. The project, driven by Nila López, will finance this leap through a crowdfunding campaign on Verkami.
The change comes with an objective that goes beyond the format. The publication was born to combat misinformation about mental health and question still widespread stereotypes, such as the idea that people with psychosis are violent or cannot work, while expanding its reach with a more professional organization and its own community.
The magazine will double its content and will be published quarterly in 2026
Until now, each issue has addressed a different mental health issue. The first volume focused on stigma and combined reflections, interviews with professionals, and artistic pieces.
With the new phase, the publication will maintain this thematic focus and organize its content into three blocks. There will be a scientific section with local research, neuroscience, and a monographic dossier on disorders such as suicide, schizophrenia, or borderline personality disorder.
This axis will be joined by a experiential block with testimonies and interviews, and an artistic section dedicated to literature and art as therapeutic tools. López defends this expressive role of creation in the project.
"Art is very important because it is a way of communicating and expressing ourselves; we have many ways to use it as therapy and, furthermore, it is a liberation" - Nila López, creator of Estat d'ànim
Professionalization also incorporates a new work structure. The editorial committee will have six members with profiles linked to research, dissemination, philology, communication, and the project's own direction.
The team includes Dr. Elisabet Vilella, a researcher at Institut Pere Mata, science communicator Martí Lleurador, philologist Mònica López, marketing manager Sebastià Alba, Alexandra David la Cambra, and Nila López herself.
Nila López promoted an association to combat unwanted loneliness
Along with the magazine, the project has given rise to the association Estat d'Ànim, Cultura i Salut Mental. The entity aims to build community and combat unwanted loneliness through workshops, talks, and activities.
López, an activist for four years and diagnosed with bipolar disorder for two decades, places there one of the central functions of the initiative. Her intention is that citizens have more information about mental health and lose the fear of asking for help when they need it.
The project begins this new stage with a still reduced but stable base of support. At this moment it has about 90 subscribers who sustain the publication while it seeks to expand its reach with the crowdfunding campaign.
The next presentation of Estat d'ànim is scheduled for May 27 in Reus.
