The proceedings for the fatal hit-and-run of a 55-year-old woman in Valls have already been sent to court after the accident that occurred on Tuesday night on the N-240A, at the height of Portal Nou and near a gas station. The investigation is being handled by the Local Police of the capital of Alt Camp, as the accident occurred within their area of operation.
The main difficulty of the case is that there were no witnesses and the reconstruction of what happened depends, for now, solely on the statement of the involved driver. That driver notified the authorities, tested negative for alcohol, and was driving with all documentation in order.

The accident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. on Tuesday, when the vehicle ran over the woman on that stretch of road accessing Valls. The victim was a resident of the municipality and lived in a farmhouse.
According to the version provided by the driver, the woman was already on the roadway when he saw her and could not avoid the impact. The absence of other people who witnessed the events limits the investigation for now to that account and to the evidence collected at the scene.
In addition to the exact point of the hit-and-run in the vicinity of Portal Nou, officers are working to clarify why the victim was on the road at that time. That aspect remains unexplained.
