The Tarragona City Council will begin on Monday, May 25, the first phase of the paving works on Pere Martell street, an action planned for two weeks on one of the access axes to the Part Baixa. The works will affect the section between Ramón y Cajal avenue and the roundabout on Eivissa street, which will be excluded from the intervention.

The work will force a reorganization of traffic in the urban environment while the council tries to keep at least one of the two roundabouts in the area open throughout the operation. This two-phase planning seeks to reconcile the improvement of the pavement with the passage of vehicles towards Jaume I, Vidal i Barraquer, and Manuel de Falla.

Nacho García, councilor for Urbanism, explained that the asphalt on Pere Martell street had been showing deficiencies for some time and defended the start of a pending action at this point in the city.

Traffic will be diverted through Jaume I and Vidal i Barraquer

During the first phase, the central lane of Pere Martell will be affected, and vehicles will be diverted to the left lane to continue along Jaume I street. Traffic heading towards the Part Baixa will also be channeled along the same route.

In the direction of Ramón y Cajal, the alternative route will pass through Vidal i Barraquer, Manuel de Falla, and Francesc Bastos. Additionally, Mallorca street will temporarily function as a dead-end street with two-way traffic to facilitate access to private parking spaces.

From 7 PM to 8 AM, residents of Pere Martell will be able to access their private parking spaces. Outside of this period, mobility in the area will be conditioned by the progress of the work and by temporary signage.

Lines 41 and 22 will move their stops until June 5

The intervention will also alter the urban bus service. Lines 41 and 22 will modify their routes and move their stops to Jaume I and Francesc Bastos streets for the duration of the works in this first stage.

The municipal calendar sets the end of this phase for Friday, June 5. From that moment on, traffic will be progressively reopened once the horizontal signage of the new pavement is completed.

Then the second phase will begin, scheduled for June 1, in the section between the roundabout on Mallorca street and the pedestrian crossing located after Manuel de Falla street. The Tarragona City Council has set June 12 as the completion date for this second action.
