The departure operation for the May bridge has started with complications on several roads in Catalonia, where the high influx of vehicles has caused long queues and several accidents during the afternoon. The AP 7 concentrates 25 kilometers of congestion in total, while significant traffic jams are also recorded on the A 2 and at the Trinitat knot in Barcelona.
"At this time, the AP 7 has accumulated 25 kilometers in total" - Servei Català de Trànsit
The AP 7 concentrates the biggest traffic jams
The road with the most problems is the AP 7. In the northbound direction, 9 kilometers of congestion have accumulated between Granollers and Santa Perpètua de Mogoda. In the southbound direction, two kilometers of queues have been registered between Barberà del Vallès and Santa Perpètua de Mogoda.
To that are added six kilometers between Martorell and Castellbisbal and another six between Castellet i la Gornal and Olèrdola. In both sections, some vehicles have been stopped on the shoulder of the road, in a context of very dense traffic.
During the afternoon, several accidents also occurred on the AP 7, incidents that forced the temporary closure of some lanes. At 8:00 PM all lanes had already been reopened, although traffic jams continued for a large part of the affected stretch.
"At 8 PM, however, they have all been reopened" - Servei Català de Trànsit
Accident on the A 2 near Abrera
On the A 2, another accident has complicated the exit towards Lleida. The incident has forced the closure of one lane in Abrera and has generated traffic jams of about three kilometers.
"On the A 2 there is a lane closed in Abrera towards Lleida due to an accident. Traffic jams for about 3 km." - Trànsit
More queues than usual at the Trinitat nus
Circulatory pressure has also been felt at one of the usual crossing points in the Barcelona area. At the Trinitat junction, there have been more traffic jams than usual due to the departure operation for the May bridge.
At this point, the B 20 has accumulated up to 8 kilometers of tailback in the northbound direction, while on the B 10, traffic jams have reached four kilometers in the same direction. On the C 58, between Barcelona and Montcada i Reixac, another three kilometers of slow traffic have been added.
The afternoon thus leaves an exit marked by the intensity of traffic on the main metropolitan axes and on basic corridors such as the AP 7, with a very high volume of displacements coinciding with the start of the bridge.
