The municipal services of Tarragona have attended to about 2,100 people in the extraordinary regularization process for foreigners promoted by the central Government until Tuesday afternoon. The City Council reinforced the service since Monday to address a high demand in different parts of the city.
Of the total number of people served, 1.400 have passed through the citizen service offices and civic centers, while another 700 are users of Serveis Socials. The procedures being managed include the application for the certificate of registration and the vulnerability report, two documents linked to this procedure in cases where they are required.
Municipal reinforcement to assume the demand
The council activated a reinforcement of municipal services to facilitate the processing in the OMAC, in the offices of Serveis Socials and in the civic centers. The Technical Unit of Immigration and Citizenship, the UTIC, has also started since Monday afternoon to call the interested people to assign them an appointment.
In parallel, the Institut Municipal de Serveis Socials will be responsible for preparing the vulnerability report from the data available in its databases. That document is part of the circuit foreseen for a part of the applicants.
Who can be eligible for the regularization
The measure is aimed at people in an irregular administrative situation who arrived in Spain before January 1st and who have remained at least five consecutive months in the country. It also applies to asylum seekers who initiated their request before that same date and who do not have a criminal record.
The vulnerability report will not be necessary for applicants for international protection, for those who have an employment contract or for people who reside with a family unit formed by minor children or with disabilities, as well as with first-degree ascendants.
Information in five languages
The City Council has launched an information campaign in Arabic, French, English, Catalan and Spanish with the aim of making the procedure known to the largest possible number of people. The municipal forecast is to maintain reinforced attention while the arrival of applications continues in the different enabled services of Tarragona.
