April has left a bloody mark on the province of Tarragona with six people deceased in traffic accidents. This figure represents the highest both so far this year and in the previous year. The last two weeks of the month have concentrated four fatal accidents in the Tarragona territory.
The chronology of events reveals a succession of serious episodes in different points of the local geography. On Wednesday, April 29, a tanker truck lost its brakes on the T-750 as it passed La Pobla de Mafumet. The vehicle rammed a perimeter fence and ran over a 59-year-old man who died from the impact. Three days earlier, on Monday, April 27, the driver of a car lost his life after a head-on collision with a motorhome on the N-340 near Roda de Berà. On Sunday, April 26, a motorcyclist died after going off the road on the C-43 in Gandesa.
On Thursday, April 23, two separate incidents were recorded in the demarcation. In Aiguamúrcia, a cyclist was run over and killed by a driver who fled the scene. The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested the driver at his home hours later. SEM paramedics reached the cyclist while he was still alive but could not save his life. That same day, a man riding an electric bicycle lost his life in L'Ametlla de Mar. The driver fell onto the road on the TV-3025 without any other vehicles involved.

The N-340 highway consolidates itself as one of the most critical points of the year by accumulating four deaths in 2026. The route registers a chilling series of accidents that cross the entire calendar.

The majority of fatalities correspond to exposed users. Five of the six fatalities in April belonged to vulnerable groups such as motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians. The Servei Català de Trànsit calls for them to increase their risk perception and awareness of their fragility. It also asks other road users to maintain respectful and prudent behavior.

Catalonia closes April with a downward trend in road fatalities. As of April 30, 33 people have died in 32 fatal accidents on the interurban road network. The number of deaths in the autonomous community represents 20 fewer victims than in the same period of 2025. This represents a reduction of close to 38% compared to last year. Compared to 2019, the decrease is 39%. During the month of April, a total of 11 fatalities were recorded, one less than the previous year.
More than half of the fatal victims in April are concentrated in the demarcation of Tarragona. The global balance of 2026 shows 26 men and 7 women deceased. Among the seriously injured, who total 209, men also predominate. Vulnerable groups account for two-thirds of the fatal victims throughout the territory. 14 motorcyclists, 5 pedestrians, and 3 cyclists are registered. By demarcations, Barcelona concentrates 14 of the 33 fatal victims. Girona and Lleida register 4 victims each. Tarragona adds 11 deceased, three less than last year. El Tarragonès is the most affected region.
