The Salou City Council will launch in the coming weeks a silvopasture project to clear the undergrowth in several points of the municipality and reduce the risk of forest fires before the summer. The action will be carried out with the controlled use of a flock of sheep on municipal land.
Operation in five zones of Salou
The plan will be deployed in Cap Salou, Mirador de Salou, Xalets de Salou, Zona Estival and the park of Pedreres. The objective is to remove the excess of combustible vegetation through grazing, a formula that allows intervention in forest areas continuously and with less impact on the environment.
The initiative seeks to reduce the load of plant fuel in sensitive areas of the municipal area as the season of greatest fire danger approaches. The project will start in the coming weeks and will be completed before summer, in a key period for prevention tasks.
Possible localized traffic disruptions
The movements of the herd between the different areas may cause temporary disruptions to traffic. In these movements, the Policía Local de Salou will intervene, regulating traffic in coordination with shepherd David Arenas to facilitate the passage of the animals and minimize incidents.
From the town hall, this measure is framed within the municipal strategy for fire prevention and forest space management. The silvopasture system allows cleaning the undergrowth with livestock and acting on the vegetation that can favor the spread of a fire.

The mayor has also defined the action as an initiative "in which we all win", by combining the protection of the natural environment with a preventive intervention in particularly exposed points of the municipality.
