Reus FC Reddis defeated UE Olot 1 to 0 and will reach the last matchday in a play-off position, after a match in which they knew how to sustain the minimal advantage and protect Dani Parra's goal.
Marc Carrasco's team resolved the encounter in the 22nd minute, when Ricardo Vaz converted a penalty awarded for a clear tackle on Xavi Jaime. That goal ended up being decisive in a duel of maximum exigency for the red-and-blacks.
A penalty goal sustained Reus
The coach of Reus FC Reddis opted from the start for Dani Parra under the posts and for a forward line formed by Vaz, Ustrell and Kenneth. Before the 1 to 0, Sandro Toscano had already warned with the first great chance of the match after a recovery in the rival area, but his shot crashed against the post.
With the advantage on the scoreboard, the Reus team maintained order and knew how to manage a match in which there was a lot at stake. The key action came from eleven meters and allowed the team to defend a lead that ended up being enough.
Occasions to widen the advantage
The Reus FC Reddis had options to close out the match earlier. In the second half, Pol Fernández Serra had two clear chances. One of his shots was disallowed due to a previous offside and in the other he failed to score into an empty net.
Despite not sealing the win, the home team kept a clean sheet. UE Olot sought the equalizer until the end and managed to generate danger, including a shot that hit the crossbar. Reus resisted and secured three points of enormous value.
Everything will be decided in Terrassa
The victory leaves Reus FC Reddis in a play-off position before the last matchday. It will depend on itself to keep that spot, although Barça Atlètic's comeback in the last minute forces them to at least match the result of the azulgrana reserve team on the final date.
The Reus team will close the league next Sunday at 12 noon on Terrassa's field, a rival that no longer plays for anything. Barça Atlètic, for its part, will visit Torrent. The outcome is postponed to a final matchday in which Reus maintains its objective intact.
