The Reus City Council has supported the call from the Hammada Association, Friends of the Sahrawi People, for families from Camp de Tarragona to participate in the "Vacances en pau 2026" (Holidays in Peace 2026) hosting program. The initiative will allow for the temporary stay of Sahrawi minors, aged between nine and eleven, from Tindouf, Algeria, during July and August.
The campaign seeks to encourage more households to take the step of hosting children during the summer, with a dual purpose. On one hand, it aims to improve the quality of life for the participating minors, and on the other, to foster intercultural education among host families and their community.

The Sahrawi Delegation in Catalonia is organizing the arrival of the minors, who will spend these two months in Camp de Tarragona. The program is aimed at children between nine and eleven years old.
The Hammada Association covers travel expenses and processes all necessary documentation for hosting. It also supports families throughout the process, manages healthcare cards for the CatSalut system, and prepares activities and institutional visits.
Families must guarantee the minor's well-being throughout their stay
Those who participate in the program will be responsible for the hosted minor for the duration of their stay. Furthermore, they must guarantee their well-being and attend scheduled activities with them.
The call is directed at families in Camp de Tarragona interested in joining the 2026 edition. In Reus, the city council has joined the appeal to support the recruitment of households willing to participate in the initiative.
