The Reus City Council has put into service 75 new free park-and-ride parking spaces on Comunitat de Múrcia street after completing the adaptation works of the plot. The new space seeks to absorb part of the parking demand in the area and offer an alternative to drivers entering the city.
The opening comes as the council links these spaces to its sustainable mobility strategy and the measures associated with the Low Emission Zone. The paradox is that the municipal response to this change of model involves, at least for the moment, expanding the offer of free parking at urban access points.
Reus adds 75 spaces and raises the free network to 828 parking spots
With this addition, the city reaches 828 free park-and-ride parking spaces in six locations. The current distribution includes the Països Catalans area with Romaní street, with 275 spaces, Pi del Burgar with 200, Misericòrdia with 137, Treball street with 70, Ball de Diables street with 70, and Comunitat de Múrcia street with 75.
The new plot is aimed at both local residents and drivers accessing Reus who seek to leave their vehicles before moving around the city. The measure fits into the municipal policy of regulating entry traffic and reducing parking pressure in other urban areas.
The works included two pedestrian crossings on Rioja street and a new access ramp
The works carried out on Comunitat de Múrcia street have included pothole repair, surface leveling and compaction, and access improvements. In addition, the City Council has built two pedestrian crossings on Rioja street and has enabled a ramp from Comunitat de Múrcia street to facilitate entry to the premises.
The action is part of a line of intervention that the municipal government wants to maintain in future years. The council is studying other available plots to expand this network of parking lots in different parts of Reus.
The municipal commitment involves providing at least one new park-and-ride parking lot each year through municipal investment plans.
