The bike lane that runs parallel to the TV-3141 road between Reus and Cambrils is in a state of neglect that compromises the safety of users. The accumulation of gravel, sand, pine needles, and vegetation on the route forces cyclists and skaters to exercise extreme caution to avoid accidents.

The currently operational section connects Misericòrdia avenue with the Blancafort and Aigüesverds developments. Although the infrastructure was built by the Generalitat de Catalunya, both the Departament de Territori and the Ajuntament de Reus confirm that the responsibility for maintenance falls exclusively on the Reus council.

Falls multiply due to accumulated dirt

Vicenç Pena, a regular user and member of the Reus Patina collective, recounts the difficulties he encounters daily. The chain came off and he fell to the ground after cycling through an area with loose gravel. His experience reflects the situation of deterioration that other residents denounce.

"I went with the bicycle and, on a stretch with gravel, the chain came off and I fell" - Vicenç Pena, regular user and member of Reus Patina

Pena adds that the lack of bins aggravates the problem. Waste such as cans and papers accumulate uncontrollably. This neglect turns the route into a hotspot of road insecurity for those who opt for sustainable mobility.

Neighbors demand urgent cleaning and pruning

The Blancafort Neighbors Association points out that the accumulation of dirt makes the lane impassable at some points. They criticize the paradox of promoting a green axis without guaranteeing its basic conservation. Furthermore, they urge the City Council to require private owners to prune the vegetation that invades the route.

The neighborhood entity underlines that comprehensive maintenance is a municipal responsibility. However, the current inaction generates frustration among residents who see how the infrastructure loses utility day by day.

"It's full of dirt in general. There are no trash cans and people leave cans, papers, and everything. It's a general maintenance problem" - Vicenç Pena, regular user and member of Reus Patina

The discontent extends beyond cleaning. The planned connection between Reus and Cambrils is cut short by the poor condition of the existing pavement. Users demand immediate solutions before greater personal injuries occur.

Sources from the Generalitat de Catalunya announce that the entire bike lane will be finished before summer. The regional administration is working on closing the pending gap to complete the route.

The last phase of works, executed by the company Gruas Construcciones, will link the Aigüesverds urbanization with the entrance to Cambrils at the height of the A-7 roundabout. This final stretch has a length of 4.4 kilometers and an investment of over four million euros.

The main construction challenges include two footbridges that must cross the AP-7 and the railway line. The installation of concrete barriers is also planned to separate the cycle path from the TV-3141 road and improve cyclist protection.
