The Reus City Council will launch this Monday, May 4, an alternative mobility plan due to the start of the transformation works of Astorga street into a civic axis. The action will be carried out in two phases and will have an approximate duration of one year. From the start of the works, parking will be prohibited in the affected section and the street will be closed to traffic.

First cut in Astorga and works for about eight months

The first phase will begin on May 4 and will affect Astorga street between the Sant Bernat Calvó avenue roundabout and Terenci Moix street, in addition to Escultor Sunyol street and Papallona street. The estimated timeframe for this first intervention is about eight months.

The Mobility and Traffic Service of the Guardia Urbana recommends using Pintor Fuster street and Salou avenue as alternative routes. Later, traffic will also be cut off on Escultor Sunyol and Papallona, although that date will be communicated based on the progress of the work.

The affectations and diversions will be duly signposted. On Sant Bernat Calvó avenue, the provisional diversion via Pintor Fuster street will be informed. In Plaça d'Europa, diversions via Pintor Fuster and Salou avenue will be indicated. There will also be specific information on Navarra street and Mediterrani avenue, with indication of the alternative passage via Pintor Fuster.

On Euskadi, dels Avellaners and de la Vicaria streets, there will be a warning about the closure of Astorga street and the possibility of limited and exclusive access for residents.

Detours on lines 10 and 11 of Reus Transport

The closure of Astorga street will also force a modification of the urban bus service. From May 4th until the end of the works, lines 10 and 11 of Reus Transport will be diverted along Salou avenue. This change will entail the temporary cancellation of the stops located on Astorga street.

The company recommends using the nearest stops. In the uphill direction, Maria Aurèlia Capmany is proposed as an alternative instead of CAP Marià Fortuny 1, and Barri Fortuny 1 bis instead of Barri Fortuny 1. In the downhill direction, Urbanització Pàmies 2 is proposed instead of CAP Marià Fortuny 2, and Barri Fortuny 2 bis instead of Barri Fortuny 2.

Once the work is finished, the routes and stops will return to their usual situation.

Park and ride and free cards in La Pastoreta

To reduce the impact of the works in the area, the City Council has set up a plot of land on Carrer de la Comunitat de Múrcia as a park-and-ride for the neighborhood of Carrer d'Astorga while the work lasts.

In addition, the Public Works department and the municipal company Reus Mobilitat i Serveis offer a free parking card in the Pastoreta car park. During the works, the private parking spaces with a curb in this car park will not be usable.

The work on Astorga street thus begins with a device of traffic changes, adjustments in public transport and parking measures to maintain mobility in the Fortuny environment while a work is carried out, planned to last for about a year.
