The Baix Camp Institute and the Tomb de Reus have closed an agreement to orient the intermediate vocational training cycle of Commercial Activities towards fashion and accessories. The new offer will start next academic year, will have 31 places and will be taught in the afternoon.

The collaboration arises at a time when local commerce seeks personnel with specific training while many young people have difficulties accessing their first work experience in the sector. The official title does not change, but the content of the cycle will be adapted to the needs of establishments in Reus linked to fabrics, pattern making, sizing, and product.

The cycle will maintain the official title and add fashion training

Students will combine theoretical classes with practical internships in local shops. This scheme will allow working on content such as window dressing, visual merchandising, and knowledge of materials directly at points of sale in the city.

Glòria Baldó, director of the Baix Camp Institute, frames the project within the desire to reinforce an area with historical weight in Reus. The head of the center maintains that the initiative aims to "add value" to the sector "in a structured way, where everyone can win".

"Commerce is too broad and the fashion sector is powerful in Reus" - Glòria Baldó, director of the Baix Camp Institute

Baldó also argues that dual training can facilitate the transition between studies and employment. In her opinion, this more specific orientation can attract more students than a more generalist commercial offer.

Shops are looking for successors and ask for staff who know the product

From the Tomb de Reus, vice-president Gemma Molné links the agreement with the difficulties that many businesses have in filling specialized positions. The entity considers that the lack of generational succession further complicates hiring in part of urban commerce.

Molné maintains that shops need profiles that arrive with a more adjusted base for daily work and recalls that internships in local shops will be part of the itinerary of the 31 students planned in this training line.

"We need people who know the product and know how to convey it to the final customer" - Gemma Molné, vice-president of the Tomb de Reus

The trade representative adds that this practical phase can become the first gateway to the labor market for many students. In her assessment, the collaboration will also serve for young people to check on the ground if they want to develop their career in this field.

The specialization will be taught starting next academic year in the afternoon shift and will maintain the official title of the intermediate vocational training cycle of Commercial Activities.
