A 52-year-old man died this Thursday when his tractor overturned on a private farm located in the municipality of Albesa. Emergency services received the alert shortly after ten in the morning to act on a serious agricultural accident in this town in the Noguera region.
Five units from the Bombers de la Generalitat, along with personnel from the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) and agents from the Mossos d'Esquadra, were dispatched to the scene of the accident. Medical personnel attempted to revive the victim, who had been trapped under the agricultural machinery after it overturned, but they could not prevent her death at the scene.
Police investigate the case as accidental death
The Mossos d'Esquadra cordoned off the area to preserve evidence and have opened proceedings to clarify the exact causes of the incident. The initial investigations suggest that it is an accidental death with no work-related character, given that the incident occurred on private property and not during a regulated professional activity.
This tragic event marks the first fatal accident related to agricultural machinery registered in the demarcation during the current year. The figure contrasts with the relative normality of the previous months, although not without other minor incidents in the sector.
Previously, in the month of February, another person was injured less seriously in Claravalls, a district belonging to the municipality of Tàrrega. On that occasion, the victim was trapped by the trailer ball of a tractor, which required the intervention of rescue teams for their release.
Several traffic accidents punctuate the day in Lleida
While emergency teams attended the tragedy in Albesa, other traffic incidents mobilized rescue services at different points in the province. Adverse weather and collisions caused multiple assists on the main communication routes.
In Bassella, a driver suffered a road departure with his car due to the heavy rains that were falling in the area. The vehicle overturned on the C-14 road and the Bombers de la Generalitat had to extricate the occupant, who was evacuated to the hospital of La Seu d'Urgell to receive medical attention.
On the other hand, in Cervera, two cars collided on the A-2 highway towards Barcelona. One of the vehicles ended up overturning after the impact, but fortunately none of the people involved were injured or required medical evacuation.
In Les Borges Blanques, a driver suffered minor injuries when his car overturned on the N-240 highway. Likewise, in Castelló de Farfanya, a cyclist fell on a rural road and was stabilized before being transferred to the hospital center with a possible fractured femur.
