A low-pressure system located west of Portugal and low pressures in the Mediterranean will cause a weekend of meteorological instability in the province of Tarragona. Rain, storms, and a drop in temperatures will mark the weather evolution over the next few days.
Saturday concentrates the greatest risk of intense rain
The rainfall will begin on Friday with greater incidence in the south of the province. Les Terres de l'Ebre, specifically Montsià and Baix Ebre, along with Baix Camp and Tarragonès, will receive the most significant downpours. These phenomena may be accompanied by thunderstorms and isolated hail.
The most adverse day will arrive on Saturday. The Servi Meteorològic de Catalunya has activated a yellow alert for rain intensity in 30 minutes for Montsià and Baix Ebre. There is a risk of exceeding 20 liters per square meter in half an hour between 14:00 and 20:00 hours.
"The situation will leave locally heavy and persistent rainfall, accompanied in some cases by hail" - Rubén del Campo, meteorologist
Saturday's showers will extend to the entire province. There will be storms and the possibility of hail in wide areas. Instability will dominate the atmospheric outlook throughout the day.
Instability persists on Sunday and next week
On Sunday the situation will improve partially in the morning. However, instability will increase again in the afternoon. Locally intense storms are forecast in the interior, especially in Terra Alta.
The weather will be cooler than usual for this time of year. This circumstance will affect the entire Mediterranean region during the weekend.
The State Meteorological Agency forecasts that instability will continue next week. Temperatures will remain below normal for mid-May in the north and west of the peninsula. The Mediterranean area will have some intervals of greater stability.
