A gas leak in a valve of an external tank at the Novasol Spray company, on Empalme street in Llorenç del Penedès, forced the access to the area to be cut off this Friday and the activation of an emergency device with four units of Bombers de la Generalitat.
The incident was plugged at 12:52 PM, barely half an hour after it was detected at 12:20 PM, but the plant's proximity to the TP-2124 road led to the closure of the road in the direction of Sant Jaume dels Domenys shortly after 2:00 PM. There were no injuries.
Bombers plugged the leak in 32 minutes
The affected company is dedicated to the manufacture of paint aerosols and the escape was located in a valve of an external tank. Personnel from the El Vendrell, Tarragona, and Reus stations went to the scene after receiving the alert.
In addition to the work to contain the leak, the emergency teams kept the area restricted while awaiting the transfer of the gas to another tank. Protecció Civil activated the pre-alert of the Pla Procicat, the Territorial Civil Protection Plan of Catalonia.
The TP-2124 was closed due to the plant's proximity
The road closure was applied due to the proximity of the facilities to the TP-2124, in the section towards Sant Jaume dels Domenys. During the afternoon, the operation enabled an alternative passage to maintain traffic in the area.
The action focused on securing the factory surroundings and controlling the affected tank once the valve was sealed. The initial alert was received at 12:20 PM and the leak was plugged at 12:52 PM.
The alternative passage on the TP-2124 was established in the mid-afternoon after the closure applied shortly after 2:00 PM.
