A man has died this Wednesday afternoon in the sea, between the mouth of the Port of Tarragona and a few meters from La Pineda beach. The investigation has been left in the hands of the Civil Guard of Tarragona, which keeps the case open while working on the identification of the victim and the clarification of what happened.
The Civil Guard has confirmed the death of a man and has specified that there is an investigation underway. The first reports suggest that the person found in the water would have died by drowning.
Deployment on the coast of La Pineda
Early in the afternoon, a white helicopter flew over La Pineda beach. Witnesses located on the Pau Casals promenade and in the vicinity of this stretch of the Costa Daurada coastline also observed boats in the water, as part of the device activated for the search.
The Civil Guard mobilized the Provincial Maritime Service, the Special Group for Underwater Activities, territorial patrols, and the Organic Unit of Judicial Police to locate the body, recover it from the sea, and begin its identification.
The kayak appeared adrift
Some information suggests that the victim would have entered the sea at noon in a kayak. The vessel later appeared adrift and with no one inside, which led to maintaining the search operation by Maritime Rescue until locating shortly after the lifeless body of the man.
The main hypothesis remains under investigation
Among the main lines of work is the hypothesis of suicide. Later, a note was located that would reinforce that possibility, although the investigation remains open and it will be the Civil Guard that determines the exact circumstances of death.
