A 45-year-old woman was rescued this Friday afternoon in the municipality of La Riba after suffering a fall during a hike on a trail that runs along the Brugent River. The incident took place near the Els Masets refuge, an area of difficult access that required the activation of the most sophisticated emergency protocols of the Generalitat.
Emergency services received the alert at 3:04 p.m. when a friend of the affected person reported that the hiker might have broken her leg and was not responding to her calls. Given the suspected severity, a ground team from Bombers de la Generalitat was immediately deployed to the location to assess the situation and coordinate extraction efforts.
The complexity of the terrain required air support. The personnel had the deployment of the rescue helicopter equipped with specialized personnel from the GRAE, the Special Actions Group, whose objective was to facilitate the descent to the victim and guarantee their safe evacuation.
Technical intervention and stabilization
Upon managing to access the woman, rescuers confirmed a severe bone injury. Bombers detailed that the victim arrived conscious and oriented, which allowed for initial medical attention to be provided without additional complications. The technicians immobilized the injured limb using a specialized splint while preparing the evacuation maneuver.
To get the patient out of the remote area, emergency teams executed a hoisting maneuver, a technique that allows people to be lowered by cables or ropes in a controlled manner. Thanks to this operation, they managed to transfer her to an ambulance waiting at a more accessible meeting point. Subsequently, the woman was taken to a hospital center to receive definitive medical attention corresponding to her injuries.
