The La Pineda promenade has reopened its doors after a structural intervention that has modified the physiognomy of one kilometer of coastline. The works concluded just a few days ago to coincide with the May bridge and the start of the high season.
The investment reached 8.5 million euros during fourteen months of intensive work. The main objective consisted of applying de-urbanization and sustainability criteria to the coastal environment.
The road gives way to sand
The technicians dismantled two lanes of the old traffic route. This decision allowed for gaining effective width in the beach area and expanding the pedestrian space.
The transformation seeks to integrate the natural landscape with public use. The result offers a clearer perspective of the sea from the interior.
"It maintains the aesthetic of the beach" - Clara, Rut and Mariluz, users of the promenade
Several neighbors value the visual integration of the new design. They consider that the reform respects the traditional identity of the place while modernizing the infrastructures.
Users celebrate the expansion
Manuel, who arrived from Navarra, highlighted the potential of the route for physical activity by the sea. The absence of road traffic improves the safety of athletes.
Mireia, a resident of the area, described the project as wonderful. She assured that it is very well planned for both young and old people.
"Much more spacious and pleasant" - Imma and Conxita, visitors from Tarragona
Tourists from Tarragona confirmed this feeling of spaciousness. The new layout eliminates the physical barrier that the previous roadway represented.
Vanessa, a regular visitor, stressed that the reform was needed. She especially highlighted the creation of safe spaces for children.
The surprise also came from abroad. Vic and Stephanie, who arrived from the United Kingdom, showed their surprise at the number of playgrounds installed next to the sand.
Claims for the elderly
Not all opinions were unanimous in total satisfaction. Emi, a resident of the town for years, valued the change as positive but introduced an important nuance.
This neighbor demanded the establishment of more specific leisure areas for the elderly. She considers that this group needs differentiated spaces within the new urban framework.
The tension between mass tourism and local rest persists. The new promenade will have to demonstrate its capacity to absorb the influx without losing the calm that its regular residents seek.
