The Meteorological Service of Catalonia has extended the yellow alert for heavy rains to new regions in the south of the province. The update to the warning for a meteorological situation of danger affects a specific time slot this Saturday.
The measure comes into effect at 14:00 hours and will remain active until 20:00 hours. The regional body has established a danger level of 2 out of 6 for this day. This classification indicates that the population must exercise extreme caution due to the possibility of adverse phenomena.
Seven regions remain under meteorological watch
The area of influence of the warning now covers seven distinct territories. The regions of Montsià, Baix Ebre, Terra Alta, Ribera d'Ebre, Priorat, Baix Camp, and Tarragonès are included in the list of affected areas. Technicians foresee locally intense rainfall during the indicated period.
More than 20 liters per square meter could fall in just 30 minutes. This specific intensity increases the risk of rapid water accumulation in streets and low-lying areas. The speed at which these episodes develop complicates urban drainage management.
Temperatures will not experience significant changes compared to previous days. The highs will be around 24 degrees. For their part, the lows will range between 10 and 12 degrees. This thermal stability does not prevent the formation of storms associated with atmospheric instability.
The threat of hail returns on Sunday
The Sunday day will begin with a temporary improvement in conditions. The morning will allow a respite from Saturday's rains. However, the calm will be transient in some areas. In the afternoon, storms could return with force in specific spots.
The Terres de l'Ebre concentrate the greatest uncertainty for the end of the weekend. The models point to the possibility of hail in some areas of this territory. This phenomenon adds an additional risk factor for agriculture and road traffic.
"The yellow alert requires caution when driving and avoiding flood-prone areas" - Spokesperson for the Meteorological Service of Catalonia
The evolution of the fronts requires continuous monitoring by the citizenry. Warnings may be modified if intensity or duration parameters change. Official information is updated as the records from automatic stations evolve.
The Meteorological Service of Catalonia maintains the monitoring of atmospheric variables. The alert will remain in effect until the episode of instability predicted for this Saturday at 8:00 PM concludes.
