A fire burned five garbage containers around three in the morning this Sunday at the intersection of Guerau de Liost and Sant Ramon streets, in El Vendrell. The Local Police cordoned off the area until the arrival of the firefighters, who extinguished the flames without any other damage being reported.
The fire broke out a few meters from homes and an area with olive and palm trees, a proximity that raised concern in the surroundings. During the fire, explosions were also heard due to the glass in the containers.
The flames reached five containers next to homes and vegetation
The fire affected a battery of five containers located at the intersection of Guerau de Liost with Sant Ramon. The proximity of the flames to the houses and to a strip of trees forced the perimeter to be secured while the extinguishing units arrived.
During those minutes, several explosions accompanied the fire due to the presence of glass inside the containers. The action prevented the fire from spreading beyond the containers.
The Local Police cordoned off the area and the causes remain unclear
First, the Local Police of El Vendrell acted, closing off access to the affected area. Then, the firefighters put out the fire and declared the incident under control with no additional damage to nearby homes or vegetation.
So far, the causes that originated the fire have not been revealed. Concern persists in the neighborhood about what happened, both due to the proximity of the fire to the houses and the possibility that a similar incident could be repeated in other container batteries in the municipality.
