The Civil Protection Unit of the Government Subdelegation in Tarragona will test the mass alert system to the population ES Alert this Monday, April 27, at 11:00 hours with a nuclear emergency drill in the vicinity of the Vandellòs II power plant.

The test will be carried out within a radius of up to 10 kilometers around the plant and will reach about 30,000 residents from several municipalities in Baix Camp and Baix Ebre. It will be the first time that people within this area receive an alert message directly on their mobile phones linked to this system.

Municipalities included in the drill

The exercise will affect Vandellòs i l"Hospitalet de l"Infant, Mont roig del Camp, L"Ametlla de Mar, Pratdip and Tivissa. The notification will be sent to all connected devices within the defined area and the message will expressly indicate that it is a drill.

The plan is to check how the system responds in a real test situation on the ground and what effective reach it has among the population that is at that moment within the fixed perimeter.

Without calls to 112 nor actions by the population

The alert that appears on phones will not imply any operational instruction for citizens. It will not be necessary to take any action or contact emergency services, as the sending is exclusively part of a technical test.

The central objective of the day is to verify the effectiveness of ES Alert as an immediate communication tool with the population in an emergency scenario.

Institutional coordination to evaluate the result

The preparation of the drill has been coordinated from the Subdelegation of the Government in Tarragona, with the collaboration of Protecció Civil, the Delegation of the Government in Catalunya and the city councils involved in the device.

Once the test concludes, information will be collected to evaluate the system's operation and its real scope among the population, with a view to future activations in case of a real emergency in the vicinity of Vandellòs II.
