Renfe has enabled an alternative road service between Sant Vicenç de Calders, in El Vendrell, and Vilafranca del Penedès to deal with the delays accumulated this Sunday on the R4 Rodalies line.
The measure has been adopted after a day marked by incidents in circulation. The origin of the delays is in an incident in the railway infrastructure in Montcada Bifurcació, a key point of the network that has ended up affecting the service in several sections of the line.
Delays of about 30 minutes on the R4
The R4 convoys register average delays of about 30 minutes on the section between Sant Vicenç de Calders and Martorell. The disruption has been dragging on throughout Sunday and has forced the activation of this road alternative to try to absorb part of the mobility of travelers.
The reinforcement is concentrated between Sant Vicenç de Calders and Vilafranca del Penedès, while the incident continues to affect the regularity of the railway service on the line. The disruption remains in the corridor between Sant Vicenç de Calders and Martorell, where transit times continue to be above usual.
Incident at a strategic point of the network
Montcada Bifurcació is one of the most sensitive enclaves for railway traffic in the Barcelona area, and any problem in the infrastructure usually has an impact on different lines and routes. In this case, the breakdown has again been transferred to the R4, with direct consequences for users from Penedès and from the axis towards Martorell.
During the day, passengers have had to face longer waits than expected and changes in the usual operation. The alternative road service is maintained as a response to an incident that continues to condition railway mobility on this section of Rodalies.
