A 67-year-old woman, a resident of Roda de Berà, fell on Saturday night among the rocks of the Costa Daurada beach breakwaters and remained trapped in the water until a patrol managed to pull her out and prevent her from drowning.
The rescue forced the opening of an emergency access through the port just two minutes after the alert to 112, received at 8:44 PM. The woman could not move due to pain and was still in the water when the first officers arrived.
Officers opened access through the port two minutes after the alert
Elements from the Generalitat Firefighters, SEM ambulances, and police patrols were deployed to the area. The first officers to arrive cut through metal bollards with an angle grinder to enable a quick entry through the port.
At the same time, a patrol accessed the point where the woman had fallen on foot via the beach. There, they pulled her out from among the rocks in an initial intervention and prevented her from drowning, although the victim was still in the water and could not move due to pain.
Two officers jumped into the water before the SEM confirmed a possible fracture
At 9:10 PM, a medicalized ambulance arrived to reinforce the operation. At that moment, two officers jumped into the water to collaborate in the rescue along with the rest of the mobilized services.
The final extraction was completed around 9:26 PM. Afterwards, the SEM attended to the woman and noted a possible femur fracture in her left leg.
After assistance on Costa Daurada beach, the medical team transferred the victim to the Santa Tecla Hospital in Tarragona.
