Criminal acts in Reus decreased by 9.5% during 2025, going from 6,895 to 6,242, according to the data analyzed at the Local Security Board held in the city. After the meeting, mayor Sandra Guaita defended that "Reus is a safe city and the data is good".

The board gathered municipal authorities and representatives of the police forces to review the evolution of criminality in the municipality. The general decrease was supported, as stated in the session, by the coordination between forces, criminal prevention through joint operations, and the expansion of human and technological resources allocated to the police.

Crimes against property and public order fall

The most numerous block continues to be that of crimes against property, which represent 73% of the total in Reus, although they also registered a drop of 12.2%. Within this section, robberies with force decreased by 25.9% and robberies with violence or intimidation were reduced by 25.3%.

Also decreased crimes against persons, with a decrease of 4.2%, and crimes against public order, which fell by 22.9%.

Xavier Hervàs, chief inspector of the Basic Police Area of Mossos d'Esquadra Baix Camp Priorat, situated the criminal photograph of the city in parameters similar to those of other municipalities in the area.

Hervàs added that the commercial network of Reus explains the relevant weight that thefts maintain within the set of criminal offenses.

Crimes against public health rise and cybercrimes rebound

One of the sections that did grow was that of crimes against public health, with an increase of 18.7%. The police link this increase to greater operational activity, which has allowed more cases to surface.

The authorities also warned of the rise in cybercrimes in the city. According to the Mossos d'Esquadra, four residents of Reus are victims of cybercrimes every day, a figure that focused part of the preventive message launched after the meeting.

Pressure on repeat offenders and more tools for the Urban Guard

The fight against recidivism is concentrating on recurrent offenders, a job that the authorities consider reinforced by the law that comes into force today. The Mossos command in the area assured that there are fully detected people on whom action is being taken to present before the court the largest possible volume of evidence.

"We have identified individuals and are working to bring them before the judge with the maximum possible evidence" - Xavier Hervàs, chief inspector of the Basic Police Area of Mossos d'Esquadra Baix Camp Priorat

In Reus there are ten people who accumulate around 100 arrests, according to the data presented during the meeting. In parallel, the Urban Guard already has access to the state database that gathers precautionary measures and warrants issued by judicial bodies, a tool with which it seeks to reinforce control over repeat offenders.

Fewer files for incivility and new security plans

In the administrative sphere, the sanctioning files for incivility also decreased by 17.97%, going from 3,183 to 2,611. During 2025, 40 joint criminal prevention devices have been carried out, one of the lines that the council and the police forces link to the global decrease in crime.

The municipal government now plans to install video cameras in the scattered areas of the city and deploy a mobile citizen security application. Despite the improvement in indicators, the message from the local executive was one of continuity in police pressure and in preventive measures. The mayor closed the assessment with a clear idea. "We are not satisfied".
