Civil Protection of the Generalitat has activated the pre-alert of the Ventcat plan given the forecast of an intense wind episode for this Monday, April 13, in several parts of Catalonia. The most relevant impact is expected in the regions of Baix Ebre, Montsià, Alt Empordà and Baix Empordà, where gusts exceeding 108 km/h may be recorded.
Tramontana in Girona and mistral in the Terres de l'Ebre
The episode will be marked by the tramontana in the north of the province of Girona and by the mistral in the regions of Terres de l"Ebre. The forecast places the most intense gusts in Alt Empordà and Baix Empordà, as well as in Baix Ebre and Montsià, four regions where the wind can gain strength throughout the day.
The Ventcat pre-alert has been activated preventively due to the predicted intensity of the phenomenon and its possible impact on mobility and outdoor activities, especially in the most exposed areas of the coast and the south of the country.
Rain on the coast and snow in the Pyrenees
In addition to the wind, the weather forecast indicates precipitation during the morning on the coast, the northern pre-coastal area and the Pyrenees. From midday, weak or moderate showers are expected in the northeast quadrant and also in the Pyrenees, in a context of unstable weather that may affect different points of the territory.
Regarding the snow, the elevation will move between 800 and 1,200 meters on the northern Pyrenean slope. In the rest of Catalonia, it will be around 1,600 meters, which concentrates the possibility of snowfall in the northern mountain areas for a good part of the day.
The day will thus be marked by strong wind in Empordà and Terres de l"Ebre, along with rain and snow in northern areas, with special monitoring of the meteorological evolution in the most exposed regions.
