Cambrils will enable this summer two new adapted bathing areas for the elderly and people with reduced mobility. The facilities will occupy specific spaces on Ardiaca beach and Llosa beach.
The investment is around 60,500 euros intended for the rental of the necessary structures to equip both beaches. The objective is to guarantee safe access to the sea during the summer season.
Guardrails and lifelines to facilitate access
The Llosa beach will receive a bathing platform equipped with around 20 seats and protection from the sun. Workers will anchor stainless steel railings that will allow users to enter the water with greater stability.
A lifeline with buoys will delimit 115 square meters of marked channels. This system allows swimmers to hold on during their swim and facilitates the performance of rehabilitation and mobility exercises.
The Ardiaca area will also incorporate railings and its own lifeline. Both locations will remain operational from June 15 to September 15.
A diagnosis reveals shortcomings on the golden coast
This initiative is part of a continuous improvement context after learning the accessibility data in the region. Vila-seca and Cunit already implemented similar measures on their beaches during the summer of 2025.
L'Hospitalet de l'Infant was a pioneer in implementing a pediatric amphibious chair along with marked pergolas. The municipality also installed showers with cranes and adapted parking spaces to cover specific needs.
The Chair of Tourism Innovation and Research Salou-Costa Dorada of the URV prepared a comprehensive diagnosis last year. The study analyzed the 55 beaches and 23 coves distributed across the 13 coastal municipalities.
"Only 47.3% of beaches have access ramps" - Chair of Tourist Innovation and Research Salou-Costa Dorada of the URV
The results showed significant disparities in the services available to all audiences. Assisted bathing with specialized personnel is offered in only 50.9% of the cases studied.
However, the basic infrastructure presents more encouraging figures in some aspects. 78.2% of beaches have parking spaces for everyone and 61.8% have adapted restrooms.
