The Barcelona Urban Guard arrested last Thursday at 4:45 p.m. a man and a woman on Vila Antònia street. The agents impute to them a presumed crime of mistreatment in the domestic sphere after intervening in a domestic dispute.
This action is added to two previous interventions registered in the city during the same day. The accumulation of these cases in such a short interval reflects the intensity with which security forces must attend to this type of emergency in the urban fabric.
Three arrests in less than twenty-four hours
The Vila Antònia episode constitutes the third arrest for domestic violence in a few hours. The temporal coincidence of these events forces police services to maintain a high response capacity in different districts simultaneously.
The police intervention occurred at 4:45 PM on Thursday in the middle of a public street. The officers identified the alleged aggressors and proceeded to their immediate arrest to bring them before the judicial authorities.
Previously, during the early morning of the same day, the Mossos d'Esquadra had already acted in another scenario of gender violence. Coordination between the different security forces is essential to manage this recurring casuistry in the metropolis.
One detainee breached a restraining order
In the first of the actions, which occurred on Comtes d'Urgell street, the agents arrested a 50-year-old man. The subject threatened and physically assaulted his ex-partner inside a home.
The investigations revealed that the detainee also committed a crime of breach of sentence. The judge had imposed a precautionary measure that strictly prohibited him from approaching within 200 meters of the victim.
The accused ignored the safety distance marked by the judicial authority. This non-compliance aggravates the individual's procedural situation and demonstrates flagrant disregard for the established protection measures.
The reiteration of these behaviors highlights the difficulty in guaranteeing the safety of victims when aggressors do not respect legal restrictions. The courts will have to assess the concurrence of these factors in the upcoming hearings.
The Prosecutor's Office may request the tightening of precautionary measures for the 50-year-old man. Violation of the restraining order usually entails additional prison sentences to those derived from the initial assault.
