A detained man assaulted this Wednesday two Mossos d'Esquadra officers in the cells of the Palau de Justícia de Tarragona, in a new violent episode after he had already been arrested for allegedly attacking two other police officers at the Hospital de Santa Tecla on Monday night.
During the aggression in judicial premises, the arrested person delivered two punches to the nose of one of the mossos and hit another agent on the lip and on an arm. The mosso injured in the nose has been placed on sick leave after being treated at the mutual insurance company.
New detention in judicial headquarters
After these events, the man was arrested again, this time as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of assault against authority. The aggression occurred when the arrested person was already under custody in the cells of the Tarragona judicial complex.
The detainee had previously entered the police circuit after allegedly assaulting two other agents on the night of last Monday at the Hospital de Santa Tecla, also in Tarragona. That first incident motivated his initial arrest.
The case will continue for preliminary proceedings
On Thursday, he/she was brought before the duty magistrate of the Court of First Instance 5. In court, it was agreed to open preliminary proceedings to investigate what happened, instead of processing the case through a fast-track trial.
The judicial investigation is now open to clarify the scope of the events that occurred both at the Hospital de Santa Tecla and in the dungeons of the Palau de Justícia, where two mossos were injured during the last aggression.
