Altafulla Town Council is working on a specific ordinance to regulate the uses of the municipality's beaches. The future regulation will incorporate the prohibition of smoking and will also ban leaving unattended umbrellas or chairs to reserve a spot, two of the measures that the council wants to expressly establish before the end of summer.

A rule of its own for the beach

The co-mayor Alba Muntadas has explained that the beaches are already included within the civility ordinance, although the objective now is to provide them with an independent and more detailed regulation. The municipal intention involves better specifying what uses are permitted and which are not in an especially sensitive space during high season.

"The beaches are contemplated in the civility ordinance but we wanted to give them their own ordinance to provide more entity and detail" - Alba Muntadas, co-mayor of Altafulla

Among the points that will be incorporated is also a more precise regulation on the presence of dogs. The new ordinance will establish a clearer provision on schedules, leash use, and enabled spaces, in order to avoid doubts in the application of the rule and to order coexistence in the coastal strip.

Public consultation open until June 2026

The public consultation process will open from April 13 to June 13, 2026. During that period, citizens will be able to make contributions through a generic application on the municipal electronic headquarters. The calendar with which the council works places the forecast for entry into force at the end of summer.

The future ordinance will be based on the existing sanctioning framework. In the civility regulations currently in force in Altafulla, fines of up to 600 euros are contemplated for behaviors such as camping, cooking, lighting fires or littering, infractions that already affect the use of public space and which, in the case of beaches, can now be collected with greater precision.

With this step, the City Council seeks to regulate more concretely the day-to-day on the coast of Altafulla at a time when the pressure of use increases and the municipal regulation wants to anticipate the next high season.
