The Civil Guard and the Local Police of Tortosa have located a clandestine mechanical workshop in the city center that operated without administrative license and without control measures for treating polluting waste. The inspection allowed to verify that there was professional activity in the premises despite the responsible parties trying to hide it with the blinds down and leaving vehicles on the public road.

The case adds an element of recidivism. The responsible parties had already been reported by the Seprona of the Civil Guard for similar acts in a district of Tortosa at the end of 2023, but they continued with the activity and kept generating hazardous waste without control or traceability.

The inspection found four vehicles and professional machinery under repair

Inside the establishment, the agents found hydraulic lifts, compressors, leveling tools, and various tools and parts typical of a mechanical workshop. They also located four vehicles that were being repaired inside the premises.

The operation was carried out by the Seprona of the Civil Guard of Tarragona and the Local Police of Tortosa. The workshop was installed in the city center, a location that contrasted with the maneuvers to hide the daily activity of the business.

In addition to keeping the blinds down, the responsible parties parked vehicles on the street to avoid making the real volume of work visible. The agents nevertheless verified that the premises had sufficient professional equipment to carry out mechanical repairs on a continuous basis.

The agents detected used oils and solvents without control or traceability

The inspection also confirmed that the establishment operated without the required conditions for managing polluting waste. Among the materials generated by the activity were used industrial oils and solvents, considered hazardous waste.

Without a license and outside regulated circuits, the waste was managed irregularly and without traceability. This lack of control affects both the treatment of waste and compliance with industrial safety regulations required for this type of activity.

For these acts, the agents have processed complaint reports for lacking a business license, for failing to comply with industrial safety regulations, and for irregular waste management. The action states that the responsible parties had already been reported by Seprona at the end of 2023 in a district of Tortosa for similar acts.
