A lane of the AP 7 was cut off in Creixell northbound towards Barcelona due to an incident with a van during the Easter return operation. The vehicle lost a wheel, which remained in the middle of the road, and the incident ended up causing traffic jams from Riera de Gaià on an Easter Sunday with very intense traffic on the Tarragona road network.
The queues at this point reached up to 6 kilometers. The situation was normalized around 2:39 p.m., once the disruption on the highway was resolved.
More delays on the AP 7 in Tarragona
The day also left other complications on the AP 7 as it passed through the province of Tarragona due to the high volume of vehicles from the return operation. In the direction of Barcelona, there were 7 kilometers of traffic jams between Sant Jaume dels Domenys and Santa Oliva.
There was also dense traffic further south. In L'Ampolla, 3 kilometers of queues accumulated in the northbound direction and in L'Aldea, 2.5 kilometers were registered, also in the northbound direction.
Operation return with thousands of vehicles towards Barcelona
In the first four and a half hours of the Easter return operation, more than 90,000 vehicles had already returned to the Barcelona metropolitan area. Between this Sunday and Monday, up to 590,000 vehicles are expected to circulate.
To absorb part of this flow, additional lanes were enabled in the opposite direction to the usual on two sections of the AP 7, between Vilafranca and Molins de Rei next to the B 23, and between Sant Celoni and Montornès del Vallès. Mobility remained marked for a good part of the day by the concentration of return traffic from the coast and the south of the country.
