A truck caught fire this Wednesday afternoon on the A 7 at kilometer 1,160, near the A 27 exit, within the municipal district of Tarragona. The alert was received at 18:25 hours and mobilized four firefighter units.
The caller reported that the vehicle's cabin was burning. When the Tarragona fire department personnel arrived at the incident site, the driver was already outside the truck.
Affectation to traffic in both directions
The fire forced the closure of traffic in the southbound direction of the A 7 and also the closure of a lane in the northbound direction while extinction and security tasks were carried out in the area.
The column of smoke generated by the fire was visible from Tarragona, which made the incident very perceptible from different points of the urban environment and the nearby road network.
Damage in the cabin and in an area of vegetation
The truck's cargo box was empty, according to information conveyed to emergency services. The fire, in addition to affecting the vehicle, reached about five square meters of vegetation in the vicinity of the highway.
Firefighters worked on extinguishing the fire and in securing the surroundings of the A 7 at a particularly sensitive point due to its connection with the A 27 and due to the usual intensity of traffic in this access to Tarragona.
