The Civil Guard has arrested a 25-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of the shooting that occurred on Monday night in the El Canalillo area, next to Balanegra, in the municipality of El Ejido. Inside a car with bullet impacts, officers found the lifeless bodies of a married couple, parents of the arrested man.
The case also leaves four seriously injured, including the detainee's son, a seven-month-old baby who remains in critical condition. The initial investigations link the incident to an episode of domestic violence and, for now, rule out other possible motivations.
The Civil Guard located the suspect around four in the morning
The arrest was confirmed around four in the morning, after an extensive search operation deployed following the shooting. The investigation is being led by the Organic Unit of Judicial Police of the Civil Guard of Almería.
Along with the seven-month-old baby, a nearly two-year-old girl was also seriously injured. The injured also include a woman with several bullet impacts and a seriously injured man.
Investigators are focusing their work on reconstructing the sequence of shots and clarifying the origin of the weapon used, as the detainee did not have a firearms license. This aspect is one of the open points in the proceedings.
Two minors were evacuated to the pediatric ICU in Almería
The extent of the shooting forced the injured to be distributed among several health centers in the province. The 60-year-old man was admitted to the ICU of the Torrecárdenas Hospital in Almería.
For their part, the two minors were transferred to the pediatric ICU of the Princess Leonor Mother and Child Hospital. Another injured adult was admitted to the Poniente University Hospital in El Ejido.
In addition to the main hypothesis of domestic violence, the proceedings incorporate the personal situation of the detainee. Sources consulted indicate that the young man might suffer from some mental disorder, an aspect that is also part of the ongoing investigation.
