The Second Section of the Court of Tarragona has sentenced a man to two years in prison for selling drugs in the Part Alta of Tarragona and assaulting a member of the Guàrdia Urbana during his arrest. The sentence totals one and a half years in prison for drug trafficking and another six months for assaulting an authority figure.
The events occurred in the early morning on Cós del Bou street, in a central part of the city, for a ten-euro sale that ended with a sentence that also includes a fine of 180 euros for a minor offense of assault. The distance between that minimal transaction and the set of sentences imposed is the core of the case judged by the Court.
The sale took place at 3:40 AM on Cós del Bou street
The sentence places the events on September 21, 2023, at 3:40 AM. At that time, the accused handed over a package to another person in exchange for ten euros on Cós del Bou street, in the Part Alta of Tarragona.
A patrol of the Guàrdia Urbana intervened shortly after and seized drugs prepared for distribution. Among the substances found were four packages of cocaine, one of heroin, and four MDMA tablets, in addition to hashish.
The total value of the substances reached 380 euros, according to the facts recorded in the ruling. The officers also found 130 euros in cash, an amount that the sentence links to the sale of narcotics.
The accused hit an officer and the Court added six months in prison
During the arrest, the convicted man hit one of the officers involved in the police action. That assault led to a second conviction, in this case for assaulting an authority figure.
In addition to those six months in prison, the court imposed a fine of 180 euros for a minor offense of assault. The officer suffered injuries to his neck and wrist.
As a result of that assault, the police officer required two days of medical leave and three days of recovery, a fact that the Court of Tarragona incorporates into the sentence along with the conviction issued by the Second Section.
