A 42-year-old man was injured on Saturday night in Cornudella de Montsant after falling about 12 meters when returning from a climbing activity. The alert to 112 activated a rescue operation by the Bombers de Catalunya at 9:28 PM for a mountain accident.

The rescue lasted three hours due to the difficulty of accessing the accident site. The teams needed an hour to arrive by trail, another hour to stabilize the injured man, and a third hour to evacuate him to the main path before his medical transfer.

The teams took an hour to reach the injured man by trail

The accident occurred in an area with complex access in this municipality of Priorat, which required deploying a mountain operation to reach the injured hiker. When the first responders arrived, the man presented with several fractures as a result of the fall.

During the intervention, Bombers de Catalunya and the SEM attended to the injured man on the ground before starting the extraction. The evacuation to a practicable area for transfer was prolonged due to the conditions of the route and the need to ensure prior stabilization.

The evacuation added another hour after medical stabilization

The rescue sequence was marked by three one-hour phases. First, the access on foot to the location of the accident victim. Then, medical assistance and stabilization. Finally, carrying and evacuation to the main path.

The operation concluded with the man's transfer to a hospital center, once the extraction from the mountain area was completed. The call to 112 that initiated the operation was received on Saturday at 9:28 PM.
