A mass of polar air will enter Catalonia next week and cut temperatures from Wednesday.

The change arrives after an April with record temperatures and returns May to usual values; between Thursday and Saturday, the highs will drop below 20 ºC in several urban areas.

Monday will still hold the heat and on Tuesday the first showers will arrive

Monday will be the most stable day, with highs that could reach 25 ºC.

On Tuesday, afternoon showers will appear, with the possibility of them reaching the coast and affecting mainly the pre-coastal area and the interior.

From Wednesday the clearest change will begin, with more instability and a thermal decrease that will intensify as the week progresses.

Barcelona and Girona could receive the first rainfall between Thursday and Friday

Between Thursday and Friday the probability of precipitation increases in the regions of Barcelona and Girona.

The passage of the front could leave storms and hail in several regions, and the phenomenon of wake turbulence is not ruled out.

Snow could fall above 1,200 meters on the northern slope of the Pyrenees.

The forecast also points to highs below 20 ºC between Thursday and Saturday, with nighttime lows close to 10 ºC in urban areas.

Starting Wednesday, wind speed will also increase, with mestral in Terres de l'Ebre and tramuntana in Empordà.

That polar air intake could stir the sea between Thursday and Friday on the Catalan coast.

NOAA models draw a corridor of winds from the polar circle, while the formation of a low-pressure system in the Mediterranean remains unconfirmed.
