Civil Protection of Catalonia activated at midnight the PLASEQTA pre-alert due to a fire at the IQOXE company, in La Canonja, within the petrochemical area of Tarragona. The fire was extinguished without any affected people being registered.
Fire on an exterior pipe of a reactor
The alert was activated at 00:00 hours on Friday morning after a fire was detected in the insulation of an exterior pipe of a reactor located within the IQOXE industrial complex. The incident mobilized the pre-alert of the chemical emergency plan due to it being a facility in the petrochemical environment.
The fire was extinguished by the teams of the Southern Chemical Park, who acted on the affected point within the plant. Subsequently, the Bombers de la Generalitat reviewed the area to check the state of the installation and rule out added risks.
Pre-alert deactivated an hour later
Around one in the morning, Civil Protection declared the PLASEQTA pre-alert over once the operational review was completed. The Firefighters confirmed that the fire was completely extinguished and that the situation had been brought under control.
There were no people affected and the situation was totally normalized after the intervention of the emergency services in the La Canonja complex.
