A 65-year-old woman of American nationality died by drowning early Saturday morning after falling into the sea at the Sant Carles Marina in La Ràpita. The alert was received at 00:41 hours and activated the Bombers de la Generalitat, Local Police, Mossos d'Esquadra, Guardia Civil, and the Medical Emergency System.
The fall occurred while she was walking with a 61-year-old man of British nationality, also a user of the port, after going out for a drink and returning with a scooter. The woman was evacuated alive but died shortly after at the Amposta Hospital.
The teams received the alert at 00:41 hours at Sant Carles Marina
The first intervention was carried out by a Local Police patrol, which was near the incident area at the time of the alert. Later, the other mobilized units arrived at the marina's dock.
During the operation, the Bombers de la Generalitat located the man in the water, conscious and with symptoms of hypothermia. By then, the woman had already been pulled from the sea and was receiving attention on the dock with a thermal blanket.
The SEM transferred the victim to the Amposta Hospital. There, the woman died shortly after admission, according to information from the operation.
The victim was returning with a British man who suffered hypothermia
Both had boats moored at Sant Carles Marina and had gone out for a drink before the incident. The fall occurred when they were returning to the port with a scooter.
The man, 61 years old and of British nationality, survived and was found conscious in the water. Emergency services noted symptoms of hypothermia during the intervention.
Sources from the operation indicated that the woman and the man had arrived in La Ràpita accompanied by different people, although they later coincided in the night outing prior to the accident.
