Between Thursday night and noon this Friday, a dozen calls for vegetation fires mobilized the Generalitat Firefighters teams throughout the southern third of Catalonia. None of the registered incidents were serious, although the activity during these hours kept several crews active who attended to everything from real flames to false alarms.
Affected Roda de Berà, Tarragona and Bonastre
In Roda de Berà, a unit from El Vendrell responded at 9:43 PM to La Manxa avenue to extinguish a fire that affected three cypresses and 20 square meters of vegetation. In the early morning, the city of Tarragona also experienced two minor incidents. At 3:05 AM, flames were reported on Riu Llobregat street in Campclar where grass burned. Three hours later, on a property on Francolí street in Torreforta, a tree burned along with five linear meters of asphalt felt. In Bonastre, the alert at 8:49 AM turned out to be a controlled burn with no consequences.
False alarms in Montferri, Vandellòs and La Masó
Friday morning brought several calls that did not result in actual action. At 10:00 AM, a call from Assutzena street in the L'Alzineta urbanization in Montferri reported smoke in a wooded area, but it turned out to be a false alarm. At 11:54 AM, the AP-7 highway was the scene of a report of a column of white smoke near Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant, which also did not confirm the presence of fire. At 12:33 PM, a supposed fire was detected about 50 meters from the road in La Masó; after reviewing the area via surveillance cameras, no active flames were located.
Performances in Terres de l'Ebre
In the Terres de l'Ebre area, emergency services continued working on incidents that occurred on previous days or during the early morning. At 01:13 AM, they responded to check a fire registered the previous afternoon at kilometer 12.500 of the T-301 road in Tivenys, where cultivated fields burned. Near dawn, at 02:36 AM, two fire crews had to intervene in Tortosa to extinguish reeds burned next to the river on the Passeig de l'Ebre.
