92% of the expected vehicles had already returned to the Barcelona metropolitan area on the last day of the Easter return operation. By that time, 545,000 cars had returned out of the 590,000 expected to enter by midnight, on an afternoon marked by road incidents and several traffic jams on the main access routes.
A fire forces to cut the C 32 at midday
One of the most relevant incidents of the day occurred at noon on the C 32, where a vegetation fire forced the closure of the highway. The incident caused disruptions to traffic during the peak return operation, in a time slot of high traffic intensity towards the metropolitan area of Barcelona.
In addition to this cut, traffic problems were also registered in several sections of the A 2. To this were added complications on the C 16 at the height of Berga, another of the points where circulation was conditioned during the return of thousands of drivers.
Traffic jams on the AP 7 in the regions of Tarragona
The AP 7 concentrated a good part of the complications in the province of Tarragona, with several points of dense traffic and retentions in the direction of Barcelona. The most congested stretch was the one between Sant Jaume dels Domenys and Banyeres del Penedès, where eleven kilometers of retentions accumulated.
There were also four kilometers of intense traffic between Vila seca and Vinyols i els Arcs in the northbound direction. To these affectations were added retentions of about 2.5 kilometers at the height of L"Ampolla, likewise in the direction of Barcelona.
No fatalities in the Catalan interurban network
In parallel to the mobility report, the Catalan Traffic Service maintained a positive figure at the close of the holidays. From the beginning of the Easter period, Friday, March 27 at 12:00, until this Monday, April 6, no victim has been registered on the interurban roads of Catalonia.
The day thus advanced with a mostly staggered return, although conditioned by specific incidents and traffic jams in some of the country's most transited corridors, especially in the accesses towards Barcelona and on the AP 7 axis in Tarragona.
