The Salou City Council plans to demolish the Belvedere Cocktail Bar, located on Jaume I promenade, by the end of April, as part of the Llevant beach re-naturalization project. The action affects one of the establishments on the seafront and is part of a broader intervention on this stretch of the coast.

The demolition comes after the administrative concession for the exploitation of the Belvedere Cocktail Bar was declared extinguished, due to the expiration of the term, in the January plenary session. The council maintains that the removal of the property will allow recovering natural space on the maritime facade.

First phase between Paris street and The Luminous Fountain

The elimination of the cocktail bar is part of a first phase of the re-naturalization of the Llevant promenade, which will act on about 500 meters between Paris street and the Luminous Fountain. In this section, various artificial elements will be removed with the aim of transforming the image and functionality of the promenade next to the beach.

The investment planned for this phase approaches one million euros. Among the planned actions is the removal of concrete pavements and of permanent constructions such as ornamental fountains, walls, and flowerbeds.

Native vegetation and green continuity on the seafront

The project has already received initial approval. The municipal plan proposes to replace and reinforce the existing vegetation with native species adapted to the Mediterranean climate. The intention is to move towards a continuous green cover at this point of the coast.

From the City Council they defend that the removal of the establishment and of other hard elements of the promenade will help to recover the natural space of the maritime facade and to reduce the weight of the artificial surfaces on the seafront.

Works paused during bathing season

The council has specified that the works will not affect the Plaça de les Comunitats Autònomes nor the nearby car parks. It has also announced that the works will be suspended during the bathing season to avoid inconvenience to beach and promenade users.

The intervention in Llevant is part of a broader project for the renaturalization of Salou's coastline, financed with Next Generation funds. The actions are distributed across several points of the coast, with a special concentration in the Cap Salou area, where it is also planned to reinforce the presence of vegetation adapted to the Mediterranean environment.
