Firefighters of the Generalitat and the SEM carried out four rescues in the province of Tarragona in just two hours during Good Friday, on a day with several mountain outings in different parts of Catalonia. The interventions were concentrated between 11:27 and 12:57 in la Bisbal del Penedès, Horta de Sant Joan, Alfara de Carles and Montblanc.

Four consecutive performances in Tarragona

The first departure was activated at 11:27 hours in La Bisbal del Penedès, on the camí del Dipòsit del Priorat. A 58-year-old man suffered an indisposition and was attended to at a first moment by the emergency teams at the same place. A helicopter and a ground unit participated in the operation.

After that first medical assistance, the personnel transferred him by hoisting to the helicopter and evacuated him to the municipality's football field. From there he was transferred to the hospital.

The second intervention arrived at 12:13 hours in Horta de Sant Joan, in the upper Barranc del Cubars, near the coll de la Gilaverta. A 72-year-old man presented with strong pressure in the chest, with symptoms compatible with a possible coronary condition.

The rescue helicopter allowed for the hoisting and evacuation of the affected person to the municipal fire station. There he was transferred to the SEM, which subsequently transferred him to Joan XXIII Hospital. The man was left in the hands of the health services around 2 PM.

Injured in Alfara de Carles and Montblanc

The third operation was launched at 12:34 hours in Alfara de Carles, in the area of Cim de la Muleta. A man was injured after several stones fell on his leg and he suffered a strong contusion on his knee.

In this rescue intervened three crews, the GRAE helicopter and two ground units. Firefighters evacuated the affected person to Verge de la Cinta Hospital.

The fourth departure occurred at 12:57 hours in Montblanc, in the area of Toll de l"Esqueix. A 46-year-old woman fell after slipping and suffered an affection in her ankle, in principle without fracture and with a sprain.

Two ground crews, from Montblanc and Alcover, participated in the operation, along with the rescue helicopter. After locating the group the woman was with, the hoisting and transfer to La Riba football field was carried out. The SEM took charge of the patient at 15:43 hours to evacuate her to the hospital.

Fifteen mountain rescues throughout Catalonia

The activity of the emergency services was not limited to Tarragona. Bombers de la Generalitat carried out 15 mountain rescues throughout Catalonia during Good Friday, on a day marked by falls, indispositions and disoriented people in different natural environments.

  • In la Pobla de Segur, a woman with an ankle injury was evacuated directly to the Hospital Comarcal del Pallars by helicopter with GRAE from la Seu d"Urgell and a SEM doctor.
  • In Àger, a man feeling unwell in the Agulla del Forat, in Mont-rebei, was evacuated by helicopter with GRAE from la Seu d"Urgell and a SEM doctor to the Tremp hospital.
  • In Vilallonga de Ter, two people who had gotten lost on the route to Setcases were accompanied to the village by light units from the Ripoll park.
  • In Bagà, two people and a dog who could not continue the route in the Pas dels Gosolans were located by helicopter and accompanied to the Coll de Bauma, where their vehicle was located.

The concentration of warnings in a few hours forced the mobilization of aerial and terrestrial resources in several points of the territory, with special intensity in the Tarragona regions during the central part of the day.
