The province of Tarragona maintains this Sunday a wind danger warning with a maximum degree of 5 out of 6, on a day marked by the activation of the alert throughout the territory and by a forecast of gusts that can exceed 100 km/h. The Meteorological Service of Catalonia has raised during the morning the risk level in several regions of Camp de Tarragona, while emergency services remain pending possible incidents.

Four regions rise to orange level

The worsening of the episode has led to Baix Camp, Tarragonès, Alt Camp and Conca de Barberà moving from yellow to orange level throughout the morning. In the rest of the province, the warning remains at yellow level during this Sunday.

The most notable gusts have been measured in El Perelló, where 80 km/h has been exceeded. Also, 53 km/h have been recorded in Mont roig del Camp and 45 km/h in the city of Tarragona. Although the forecast points to a general reduction of the yellow level warning during the afternoon, the episode is not considered closed.

The wind will continue on Monday and could extend until Tuesday

The weather forecast points to a new increase in wind intensity from Monday midday and during the afternoon. That day, yellow warnings will remain active in the Terres de l'Ebre and in the regions of Baix Camp, Tarragonès and Baix Penedès.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, the wind could still cause disruptions in the south of the country. El Montsià and Baix Ebre will remain on yellow alert, within an episode that could extend at least until that day.

Specific incidents and follow-up of Firefighters

Firefighters of the Generalitat have received 170 notices related to the wind between 8:00 PM and 10:30 AM throughout Catalonia. Of that total, 6 have been registered in the province of Tarragona. The majority of actions have been linked to fallen trees, unstable elements, or incidents on public roads.

In Reus, emergency services have intervened at the bus station due to the detachment of some pieces of the roof covering the users' waiting area. In La Selva del Camp, on Vidal i Barraquer street, two fire brigades, along with Mossos d'Esquadra officers and municipal guards, have acted due to the detachment of the side cladding of a facade caused by the wind. The incident has forced the street to be closed.

Emergency services maintain vigilance given the evolution of the episode and recommend extreme caution, especially in displacements and in outdoor activities while the most intense gusts persist.
