The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested four people for an alleged theft of merchandise from trucks on the AP 2 after an operation initiated at a service station in Montblanc and resolved in Albatàrrec. The intervention is part of the special Kanpai Pista operation, underway since January to combat crime on high-capacity roads.

The Catalan police received the alert for a possible robbery in trucks parked in the service area. From that moment, the suspects fled and the officers activated a controlled stop on the road they were escaping on. That maneuver allowed them to be intercepted later in Albatàrrec, where the four arrests were made.

During the operation, the Mossos seized gloves and box cutters from those arrested. The investigation is now focused on clarifying their alleged relationship with the reported robbery.

A device focused on highways and service areas

Kanpai Pista acts in a special way on corridors such as the AP 7, the AP 2 and the C 32, routes where the increase in traffic after the elimination of tolls has also generated a more propitious context for the activity of criminal groups. The device seeks to reinforce prevention and rapid response in sensitive points, especially in rest and service areas.

Within that deployment, on Friday, March 27, an extraordinary operation was carried out between Baix Penedès and Terres de l"Ebre. Around fifty officers participated, with air support and the intervention of citizen security units, traffic, ARRO and BRIMO.

The controls were installed at strategic points, among them service areas of Penedès and Baix Ebre, with the objective of monitoring suspicious movements and hindering the action of the groups that operate on trucks and goods in transit.

Decrease of crimes and incidents

Since its activation in January, Kanpai Pista has allowed a 37% reduction in crimes and a 46% reduction in incidents on these roads compared to the same period last year. In Camp de Tarragona, incidents have dropped from 154 to 74 and crimes from 116 to 42.

In the Terres de l"Ebre, crimes have gone from 7 to 5. In that area, at the same time, user alerts have increased, a fact that the Mossos frame within greater detection and communication of suspicious situations on the road.

The arrest of these four people on the AP 2 axis strengthens police pressure on this type of robberies en route, with special vigilance in the areas where transporters stop and where criminals usually look for quick opportunities for action.
